Google en Microsoft sluiten deal met Twitter
Google Social Search en Microsoft Twitter searchHet was te verwachten: zowel Google als Microsoft zetten grote stappen richting realtime search. Vannacht maakte Google bekend dat het binnenkort Google Social Search zal lanceren en Microsoft sloot een overeenkomt vanuit zoekmachine Bing.om met Twitter. Beide partijen krijgen realtime toegang tot de data van Twitter. Google zal de resultaten van Twitter “binnen enkele maanden” opnemen in de normale zoekresultaten. Bing.com komt komende week al met resultaten van Twitter in Bing.com. Er is lang onderhandeld over de deals.

Google Vice President voor Search Products Marissa Mayer stelde tegen persbureau Reuters dat het nu eenmaal lang duurt om een deal te sluiten tussen grootmachten als Google en Twitter: This is not something that happens on the scale of hours, it’s something that happens on the scale of months. Google’s addition of Twitter data will fill a critical gap. Whenever there’s new data that’s emerging, and growing as fast as we’re seeing with Twitter, it’s really about making sure that we have the content so we can search for it and find it for our users. Qi Lu, president van de online services bij Microsoft, stelde in een reactie: Data fromTwitter provides signals about which content on the Web is most popular and most relevant to search queries. We can use those to augment today’s search experience. Microsoft plans to present the most popular Tweets of the moment, while allowing Web surfers to view Twitter messages that contain links to other Web content. Microsoft will filter out spam and other extraneous data. Op korte termijn zal Bing.com ook data van Facebook tonen. Microsoft is mede-aandeelhouder van Facebook en zou gratis toegang hebben tot de data, zo liet Facebook weten.
