Officiele reactie Google over storing zoekmachine
Google in de war door menselijke foutEerder vandaag was er een storing op Google waardoor alle websites ter wereld als malware werden aangemerkt. Inmiddels heeft Marissa Mayer, Google VP of Search Products & User Experience officieel gereageerd op de situatie die ertoe leidde dat mensen enige tijd de boodschap kregen dat elke site ter wereld een gevaar was voor hun computer. Het ging om een menselijke fout, die overigens zeer snel was opgelost.

Ze schrijft: If you did a Google search between 6:30 a.m. PST and 7:25 a.m. PST this morning, you likely saw that the message “This site may harm your computer” accompanied each and every search result. What happened? Very simply, human error. Google flags search results with the message “This site may harm your computer” if the site is known to install malicious software. [..] We work with a non-profit called StopBadware.org to get our list of URLs. [..] This list is maintained by humans, not algorithms. We periodically receive updates to that list and received one such update to release on the site this morning. Unfortunately, the URL of “/” was mistakenly checked in as a value to the file and “/” expands to all URLs. Fortunately, our on-call site reliability team found the problem quickly and reverted the file. Kortom, doordat iemand de zogenaamde “root url” invoerde, dacht Google dat alle websites in de hele wereld vol met badware stonden. Bekijk ook een screenshot van de Google storing.
